Ingredients:

  • 1 can (15 oz / 425g) plain tomato sauce
  • 1 tbsp (15ml) extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 cloves (6g) garlic, minced fine
  • 1 tsp (2g) dried oregano
  • 1 tsp (2g) dried basil
  • 1/2 tsp (3g) granulated sugar
  • 1/4 tsp (1.5g) salt
  • 1/4 tsp (1g) black pepper
  • 1/8 tsp (0.5g) crushed red pepper flakes

Instructions:

  1. If using the simmer method, heat the olive oil in a small saucepan over medium heat and sauté the minced garlic for 30-60 seconds until fragrant and translucent. For the no-cook method, add raw garlic directly to a mixing bowl.
  2. Pour in the canned tomato sauce and whisk in the dried oregano, basil, sugar, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes until evenly distributed.
  3. For the no-cook version, let the sauce sit for at least 15 minutes to rehydrate the herbs. For the simmered version, reduce heat to low and simmer for 10-15 minutes until slightly thickened, then remove from heat and let cool.
